Народный праздник Крапивное заговенье отмечается 11 июля 2020 года (дата по старому стилю – 28 июня). «Крапивным» его назвали за то, что согласно народному поверью, после 11 июля крапива теряет целебные свойства, которыми напитывается с момента прорастания.
Праздник уходит корнями в древнее дохристианское время. Тогда предки восточных славян поклонялись разным богам и верили, что животные, растения, вода, камни обладают чудодейственной силой. В истории встречается много упоминаний о крапиве как лекарственном и магическом растении. Она и от голода избавляет, и здоровье прибавляет, и девушкам красоту дарит, и нечистого отваживает.
В праздник крапивного заговенья люди варят щи из крапивы, делают из нее салаты и начинку для пирожков. Готовят целебные отвары и настои. Отвар из листьев крапивы укрепляет волосы, делает их блестящими и избавляет от перхоти.
Люди начинают копать картофель.
Молодежь водит хороводы, поет песни. Народные гуляния проходят до самого утра.
Если в этот день не слышно кукушки, то зима будет ранней и снежной.
Кому посчастливится найти в этот день цветущий чешуйник (он же царь-трава, потаенница или петров крест) и вырвать с корнем, тому растение будет служить охранным амулетом от людского зла и происков нечистой силы. Еще чешуйник может указать, где спрятан клад, и помочь достать сокровища.
Кто начнет косьбу раньше Петрова дня, того Бог покарает так, что ни один лекарь или целитель не сможет его излечить.
Крапива – хорошее средство для защиты от дурного глаза и проделок нечистой силы. Чтобы оградить жилье, нужно развесить растение над окнами и входом, положить на поддонники, чердак, порог. Чтобы очистить дом от порчи или сглаза, необходимо окурить помещения дымом от крапивных семян, сожженных на печных углях.
Крапивный холст, сплетенный в этот день, избавляет от боли в пояснице. Собирать растение лучше голыми руками – тогда и суставы болеть не будут, и кровь омолодится.

In history, there are many references to nettle as a medicinal and magical plant. It also relieves hunger, and adds health, and gives beauty to girls, and discourages the unclean.
In celebration nettle Shrovetide people cook nettle soup, make salads, and stuffing for pies. Prepare medicinal teas and tinctures. A decoction of nettle leaves strengthens the hair, makes it shiny and eliminates dandruff.
People are starting to dig potatoes.
Young people lead dances, sing songs. Folk festivals are held until the morning.
If the cuckoo is not heard on this day, the winter will be early and snowy.
Who is lucky enough to find on this day blooming scales (he is the king-grass, potaennitsa or Peter's cross) and uproot, the plant will serve as a protective amulet from human evil and the machinations of evil spirits. The scaler can also indicate where the treasure is hidden, and help you get the treasure.

Nettle is a good remedy for protection from the evil eye and the tricks of evil forces.
