Народный праздник Тимофей Грядочник отмечается 2 июня 2020 года (по старому стилю – 20 мая). В церковном календаре это дата почтения памяти святого Тимофея, князя Псковского, в миру благоверного князя Нальшанского Довмонта (Доманта). Праздник в народе назвали «Грядочником» потому, что он отмечается в фазу активных огородных работ. Князь Довмонт родился в Литве в 1240 году. В 25 лет был вынужден покинуть отчизну, так как опасался за свою жизнь из-за междоусобных войн. Он взял дружину и весь свой род и убежал в город Псков, который стал для него второй родиной. Довмонт был ревностным язычником, но в Пскове решил стать христианином и принял святое Крещение с именем Тимофей. За год жизни в городе он доблестью и христианским милосердием снискал всеобщую любовь, преданность и уважение. Вскоре горожане единодушно выбрали его своим князем. 33 года он справедливо правил Псковом и отважно защищал своих подданных от неприятельских нападений. Довмонт взял в жены дочку князя Дмитрия и породнился с княжеским родом Александра Невского. Так он попал в летописи как славный защитник земли русской. Каждый раз, когда князю приходилось брать в руки оружие, он шел в храм и получал благословение своего духовника. Побеждая врага, благоверный Довмонт строил церковь или храм в честь святого, в день почтения памяти которого это произошло. Весной 1299 года он отразил нападение последний раз. Спустя несколько месяцев князь Псковский заболел и умер. В этот народный праздник принято молиться святому Тимофею о хорошем урожае. Люди внимательно следят за молодыми всходами посаженных культур. Если на одном из растений желтеют, жухнут или скручиваются листочки, то винят «дурной» глаз соседей, которые подсмотрели, как садились овощи. В старину этот праздник приходился на конец мая, и наши предки посвящали его посадке овощей. По новому стилю это уже июнь, а как говорится в народе: «июнь, хоть плюнь». Кто не успел что-то посеять или высадить, ждет следующего летнего месяца. Как долго идет дождь в этот день, столько же продержится солнечная погода летом. Если на Тимофея Грядочника льет ливень, значит, через 6 месяцев того же числа будет сильный снегопад. На ели много шишек – к изобилию крыжовника и огурца.

Happy birthday to the memory of Timothy the Gardener
The national holiday Timofey Ryadochnik is celebrated on June 2, 2020 (according to the old style – on may 20). In the Church calendar, this is the date of reverence for the memory of Saint Timothy, Prince of Pskov, and in the world of the venerable Prince of Nalshan Dovmont (Domant). The holiday is popularly called the "garden day" because it is celebrated during the phase of active gardening. Prince Dovmont was born in Lithuania in 1240. At the age of 25, he was forced to leave his homeland, as he feared for his life due to internecine wars. He took the squad and all his family and fled to the city of Pskov, which became his second homeland. Dovmont was a zealous pagan, but in Pskov decided to become a Christian and received Holy Baptism with the name Timothy. During the year of his life in the city, his valor and Christian charity earned universal love, loyalty and respect. Soon the townspeople unanimously chose him as their Prince. For 33 years he fairly ruled Pskov and bravely defended his subjects from enemy attacks. Dovmont married the daughter of Prince Dmitry and became related to the princely family of Alexander Nevsky. So he got into the annals as a glorious defender of the Russian land. Every time the Prince had to take up arms, he went to the temple and received the blessing of his Confessor. Defeating the enemy, the faithful Dovmont built a Church or temple in honor of the Saint, on the day of veneration of whose memory this happened. In the spring of 1299, he repulsed the attack for the last time. A few months later, the Prince of Pskov fell ill and died. On this national holiday, it is customary to pray to Saint Timothy for a good harvest. People closely monitor the young shoots of planted crops. If on one of the plants the leaves turn yellow, wither or curl, then blame the "bad" eye of neighbors who spied how the vegetables were planted. In the old days, this holiday fell at the end of may, and our ancestors dedicated it to planting vegetables. According to the new style, it is already June, and as they say in the people: "June, at least spit". Those who do not have time to sow or plant something are waiting for the next summer month. As long as it rains on this day, so long will the Sunny weather last in summer. If a downpour falls on Timofey Ryadochnik, it means that in 6 months of the same date there will be a heavy snowfall. There are a lot of cones on the spruce – to the abundance of gooseberries and cucumbers.
